The Thorn's Song

I smiled when lilac tulip bloomed,

I prayed for amber wings in rain.

On fiery leaves with love perfumed,

blue angels kissed her blushing chain.

How oft fir-kissed drops fall as gems

absorbing pangs of thirst from stems.

My bare soul drenched in velvet chrome

longs to rest in her musk-soaked home.

When lilac tulip bloomed, I prayed,

I smiled for amber wings in rain.

With love, perfumed blue angels kissed

her blushing chain on fiery leaves.

Afar, yet my love sings along

if only she'd hear a thorn's song.

*This poem has been written using a form of Sonnet called a Charonnet which is quite different from the traditional Sonnet. It uses the rhyming scheme as abab ccdd efgh ii and 8 syllables per line. Also, in the third stanza, the lines from the first stanza are swapped to form the four lines.*

Farewell Shirt

farewell notes perfumed with ink~ white shirt that always escaped laundry

*This is a Japanese Monoku which is made up of a single horizontal line. It is similar to a Haiku in nature but unlike the Haiku which is made up of three lines with a total of seventeen syllables, a Monoku features a single line consisting of seventeen syllables or even fewer. It contains a pause brought about by speech rhythm with slight or no punctuation. The first letter should not be capitalized – but instead written in lower case.*

Bizzare

I brought giant fur cats,

the perfect home remedy intending to cheat

nasty rats.

More wicked games

and they simply refused to eat,

wrong flames!

What vice!

Cats would not beat

mice.

I brought giant fur cats

and they simply refused to eat

mice.

*This poem has been written using a form of Rhyme poetry which uses total 12 lines (4 stanzas of 3 lines each) with a rhyme scheme: Aba, cBc, dbD, ABD. The 4th stanza consists of repetition of 1st line of stanza 1, 2nd line of stanza 2, and 3rd line of stanza 3. The poem has a chosen theme through all stanzas. All In A Day

The Prophecy:

An ordinary December morning

extraordinary hopes in white,

streets adorned with snowflakes

embellished in red crystal dreams.

She boarded her cab to airport,

awaited holidays had arrived.

From carousels of Tokyo city

to sledges in the Alps, a while.

Roads blocked in snowfall,

eh, just a glitch in the matrix.

An hour early was a wise decision

she couldn't miss her flight,

home calling season it was.

But oh the flight was delayed

by seven hours for clear weather.

'It'd be a roller coaster ride',

her roommate had read a horoscope.

The tiresome day had just begun.

The Adventure:

A birdie spreading new wings

exploring corners of terminal,

unexpected fascination at stalls

infant desires of relaxation.

Strangers seemed welcoming

a town thriving with journeys

she traveled for 10 hours

without moving geographically.

At last announcements made

she boarded with nostalgia,

the journey to her homeland

began with a gleaming dusk,

golden sunset kissing adieu

to sequins of ocean waves.

She read a verse or two

then dozed off with clouds.

A feather travelling afar

in alluring worldly delight.

The Glitch in the Matrix:

Until they had to pause,

just an intermediate stop

where she stepped out to stroll

retracing steps to board again

caught in freezing showers.

Warm at night, she shivered

longing for her cushioned bed.

A long interesting day though

she wouldn't want it again.

With lilac morning whispers

it was time for her homeland.

Outside was a soothing warmth

veiled in white familiar gleam.

She finally cuddled in her bed

with mother's handmade meal.

Woke up to a cup of coffee

and checked for calls on phone.

Gosh! It was still yesterday

dreaded to repeat she'd forgotten,

her body had traveled in past

Alas! It was a different time zone.

Joy Overflows

Oh fears echo in hollow caves

my little ship sails in storms,

I hear my thumping heartbeats

blinking a hopeful soothing song.

Azure streams of magnificence

adorn sparkling fountains,

a mellow breathing to sprout

to revive my garden of ecstasy.

There's a joy bubbling courage..

The restless waves of paranoia

calmed down by blooming pulses,

hyacinth seeds brewing with wind

caressed in brisking serenade.

A symphony of beguile birds

from a distant shore somewhere

showers healing drops of elixir

on wilting vineyard of agony.

There's a joy pouring hope..

I fly like a newborn albatross

over stormy seas I survive,

my weariness in blissful aurora

melting memories of melancholy.

How chrysanthemum blooms again

behind lilac curtains at dusk,

my dreams now blush in silence

unfurling nervous sapphire petals.

There's a joy blooming with love..

I plant moments of velvet lullabies

beyond my receding anxious walls,

gracious ballads of generosity

sprinkled upon me from heaven.

The world plagued with malady

draped in veils of forgiveness,

divine fingers touch the tendrils

growing in dulcet meadows.

There's a joy unveiling kindness..

That joy lives in me,

I share it with the world

it leaps and grows freely..

Gracious Glory

Gracious green glow garners my garden

God's glorious gifts given to me

Grand gospels of generosity fill my heart

I enter his golden gates with goodness galore

Gorgeous gale gushes with grace

Growing my gleaming gazebo of faith

Glittering grapevine guides my hopes

Gratitude glorifies my gaiety soul.

God's greatness generated in ecstasy

guards galactic gravels with gratuity.

Gems glistening with galloping gaze

gradually gather on glass of prayer.

Gradient of gentle graffiti is my language

gullible gestures greeting with goodwill.

God is my generous guest for eternity.

Celeste Strides

Crescent wisps on rolling stones
swivel bubbling ember to burn.
Sizzling jewels on moss thrones,
redwood embellishes withering fern.

Showers of September rinse
sunset in mellowed strides.
Lustrous pink rivulets wince
on shimmering green slides.

The lonely squirrel rolls in bed
to drench in soothing musk tide.
Cuddled mist drizzles the red
veil of fir seeds on the hillside.

Fiery twigs write velvet songs
on your pier of echoing lights.
My tender soul on bridge longs
to melt with iridescent nights.

Hush! Golden sequins bloom
in tunnels of moistened birch.
In Celeste's gorgeous room,
I witness our emotions perch.

Our crimson desires fuse
on dew-kissed bluebells.
September begins to cruise
on footprints of silver shells.

*This is an example of Lipogram poetry composition from which the poet systematically omits a certain letter or letters of the alphabet. “Gadsby” by Ernest Vincent Wright is a novel of over 50,000 words all written without a single letter “E”. This is a Lipogram poem without the letter 'A'.*

Gratitude For Life

Azure mornings sprinkle dewdrops

my days lustre with happiness in life,

chiming conversations with loved ones

nuzzle me to dreams on dulcet pillows.

Delight of nourishment and safety

strengthens my spirit to live and share.

Gratitude fills my soul with light,

the pinnacle of my sanguine utopia

orchestrating hopes on days of doubts,

I'm thankful I am alive with love..

When the world is gloomy I pray,

grateful for the kindness of strangers

radiating divine impulses of love.

There's more to life than we know

behind threads of tainted windows,

clusters of darkness cleansed along

by glowing joy and graciousness.

Aurora of sparkling strand grows

in a world striving to hold hands,

I'm thankful for the world..

It is beautiful how we learn to battle

inner and outer demons to survive

no matter how turbulent storms attack

we'll always find a ray of light.

For days when we recover with righteousness,

I'm thankful for the light...

Wish To Hold Again

In hushed strides silver threads tonight unfold again,

my longing on trampled soil to be rolled again.

Beneath maple leaves my silent flower shivers,

scarlet bed of withering dreams is cold again.

So numb my desires echo in hollowed umbra,

My wishes I fear might remain untold again.

Lonely lark from wilderness sings of my despair,

Blazing sparks simmer on snow being bold again.

Oh beloved! How oft have I waned crescent soul,

Your veil of molten stars I wish to hold again.

Dreams cuddled in beguile blossoms of aurora,

Await to relive their promises old again.

Fir-kissed caress of heartbeats over years apart,

Enchant siphoned silk silhouettes to mould again.

So bereft my memoirs leave no footprints on sand,

agony on alluring waves was sold again.

Celeste dances in nebula streams on sand dunes,

Graceful Aphrodite will I behold again?

Cynthia petals drape my hopes in banisters,

I pray my tender love grows manifold again.

*This poem has been written using the poetry form Ghazal (or Ghazel) (pronounced as "ghuzzle") which is an Arabic love poem or love-song. A poetic form consisting of couplets that share a rhyme and a refrain. It is a Persian/Arabic /Urdu/Hindi and now English form of poetry between 5-15 rhyming couplets with or without refrain. (The refrain is the repeating part at the end of each couplet). Each couplet in ghazal has the same meter/ syllables that will follow throughout the poem. The rhyming in Ghazal ends like aA bA cA dA eA etc.  In Ghazal, the first couplet must have the rhyming and the refrain in both halves of the couplet in subsequent couplets, only the second half of the couplet will follow the same scheme of rhyming. I have used 12 syllables per line over here.*

Ah! Hidden weekend treasure,

ate with forbidden pleasure,

Gently Now, Gently

Shriveled dreams shiver tonight

your eyes shimmer with tears

tainted hopes scare your heart

crumbling under forgotten years

I've blended mellowed lullabies

in pouring stardust from above

drenching your vineyard of pain

in draped showers of my love

Gently now, gently let me wrap

your fingers entwined in laces

I've woven a blanket of stars

in clouds of fragrant traces

Gently now, gently let me caress

your parched lips with mine

trembling to melt frozen breath

as snowflakes in dewy outline

Darling, let me be your solace

in storms of anxious blue rain

your halo I embrace in euphony

of silk-kissed healing vervain

Your unfurling petals tonight dance

in soothing cuddles of light afloat

Musical sandcastles orchestrate

drunk moonlight for you to dote

Gently now, gently let me wrap

your fingers entwined in laces

I've woven a blanket of stars

in clouds of fragrant traces

Gently now, gently let me caress

your parched lips with mine

trembling to melt frozen breath

as snowflakes in dewy outline

Let your soul dance in velvet dew

we've waited for long to love again

rhythms of silent hearts to flow

on painted canvas of ethereal touch

Gently now, gently let me wrap

your fingers entwined in laces

(Let your soul dance in velvet dew)

I've woven a blanket of stars

in clouds of fragrant traces

(we've waited for long to love again)

Gently now, gently let me caress

your parched lips with mine

(rhythms of silent hearts to flow)

trembling to melt frozen breath

as snowflakes in dewy outline

(on painted canvas of ethereal touch)

Gently now, gently brush my essence..

Gently now, gently my safe heaven...

*This is a lyric form poetry of song-like quality, originated in ancient Greek Literature. A Lyric is a type of poem in which the expression is much more personal and tends to show more feeling or emotion throughout the piece. It is often a more formal type of poetry when it is read and written as well, typically spoken in the first person (I/me). There are also many different meters that can be used to express a lyric, or even a combination of meters as well. Even further, many will recognize a lyric within songs and music.*

The Magic Tree

It has been there for ages, perhaps older than anybody alive. Radiating dignified peace, it stands enveloping everything under it in a cocoon of soothing shade. A patient listener whom I consider my companion. On lazy noon, I'd weave uncharted territories on paper to bury in parched trunk. With numerous thoughts I couldn't share with others, I had bubbles of exuberant stories to be narrated. It swayed lush green branches and dropped a few leaves in appreciation. A young thinker humming to serene tunes of cooing wind on starry nights would teleport me to a sphere of leaves sparkling with coloured dreams. Over the years, the pile of buried pages from my memories, fears, experiences, years simmered into the roots of that old tree. It stayed patient witnessing my journey, shedding agony with withered leaves in autumn, buried under layers of winter snow, reborn every spring. From crumbles of my old struggles, figments of my journey, drops of patience nurtured it to my essence. The tree now lives as my legend, hope rising from legacy of showers that drench spirit in soaring ecstasy. The leaves fly afar, spreading through blue rivulets, blooming orchards and sing of a lonely tree that grew in a barren land with courage, turning struggles into elixir for leaves, a newfound freedom for memories to live on.

A Drop Of Sacrifice

For a long time, the northern sea had remained turbulent with whirlpools of fear unleashed in the hearts of the residents living close to the coastline. The hazardous hurricanes of war riding the chariot of freezing waves swooshed everything in their vicinity to the depths of slimy water.

With the onset of serene Spring winds, the war between rival countries also subdued. Expectant families awaited their loved ones sent for raging battles. A few arrived safely, others wounded, still many dead, yet others never did. Only their belongings in wreckage of storms and war washed up to the shores.

Her moist eyes gleamed with hope till sundown everyday and her shivering feet traced the footprints of strangers to find her beloved husband among the survivors of war. With each passing day, her hopes trembled in fear. She wondered if her husband would be lost forever like her child as the last ships reached the shore without any news of him.

One gloomy morning her hopes soared with tides again as a group of fishermen claimed they'd found a warrior. Her eyes welled up with the rushing joy of finding the reason to be happy again. As she saw him, a wave of surprise and sadness flowed through her veins. His amputated right leg now left a spot on sand instead of his footprint.

Her transient shock drowned in immense happiness as she embraced him. It felt safe to be in his arms like a pearl would sleep in peace inside the seashell. He seemed ecstatic too and showed her the gift he had brought for her. It was a child! An infant looked at her with curious blue eyes to melt her heart.

With joy dripping through the crevices of her existence, she welcomed them and inquired how it had happened. He narrated how they had survived on the enemy's land after a sudden attack. They fought valiantly before he got separated from his company. His wounds were healed by a kind woman from the enemy clan who lived with her baby.

She'd taught him that humanity supersedes hatred and wars cease once living warriors turn into frozen corpses. The child was a reminder of the woman's sacrifice and a ray of hope in their lives. His wife had never felt so proud of her husband. She caressed tiny fingers which clasped hers and a drop of joy melting her agony, a drop of sacrifice from her eyes watered the barren garden of her life in carousels of love on sand.

*This poem has been written using the Japanese Haibun form(invented by Japanese poet Matsuo Basho) which is a prosimetric literary form that he used to combine elements of Chinese prose genres with Japanese haiku themes. The range of haibun is broad and frequently includes autobiography, diary, essay, prose poem, short story and travel journal. Each haibun must have a title, followed by a short prose-like paragraph. Afterward, a simple poetic haiku (three lines of 5,7,5 syllables respectively). A haibun may record a scene, or a special moment, in a highly descriptive and objective manner or may occupy a wholly fictional or dream-like space. The accompanying haiku may have a direct or subtle relationship with the prose and encompass or hint at the gist of what is recorded in the prose sections.*

Wings Of Wisdom

On the edge of a cliff between vulnerability and strength

I stand in solitude atop my chariot of dissolving mysteries.

Withering in nostalgia a little girl, a reader of the stars,

sees in crystal ball, midsummer dreams wrapped in winter warmth.

She wishes to exist in multitudes of legendary stories,

a princess no doubt to whom I whisper bittersweet melody at night,

"One day you'll be the woman of your dreams in eternity of love.

You darling, are a wave of perpetual rhythms in experiences,

a pilgrim of your own facets in kaleidoscopic journeys,

when you've lived my years, your wings of wisdom will flutter,

to sprinkle the essence of past on a little girl weaving probabilities,

light will enter your life someday for you're someone just like me."
